If your husband or father is the type of guy that has everything here's an idea you can't go wrong with!
Last year for Father's Day I decided to organize David's garage a bit while he was away on a motorcycle trip with the guys. If you live in Toronto you are definitely aware that a two car garage rarely fits 2 cars easily, never mind any tools! So I had to strategically figure out how to make the most out of the walls and little corners. If you know me, you know I love organizing so I was excited for the challenge!
I definitely recommend building a shed if you have the space for it. Since my husband was planning to build a shed down the line, I didn't go too crazy with organizing in the garage, especially for bulkier items. However there are many ways to get creative in the garage to make space!
Some things to consider before getting to it are your husband or father's needs/uses, measurements of possible storage areas, and the overall appearance you are after. I often prefer sticking to one store or brand of tools to make it all look similar (not a must but definitely gives it that satisfying unified look). I chose Canadian Tire because I really like their colour schemes, and it's the closest store to me!
This is how it turned out!
(I was 7 months pregnant and had a 14 month old at the time so if I managed, you can too!)
Make sure to utilize any wall spaces with hooks or shelves! I found this rail (below) with adjustable hooks from IKEA from the BRANDUR collection. I love that you have the freedom to slide them around to suit your needs and there are so many more hook options that you can add. I love how flush to the wall it is and how accessible everything is! And yes, both our cars still fit no problem!
When my husband came home and opened the garage his face was priceless! He was so surprised at how I pulled this off. We lived in a condo prior to this home so he was very happy to have his space!
* WARNING * This will increase the hours your husband or father spends tinkering in the garage!
